Sarah was stuck in a vicious cycle; she felt too self-conscious about her weight to exercise; and yet the lack of activity was seeing the 36-year-old piling on the pounds.
With her health coming under pressure from the excess weight, Sarah decided to take matters into her own hands. She wanted to reclaim her life; she wanted to know that her future was in her own hands.
She took the first step towards the rest of her new life...
Sarah joined Healthworks , and embarked on their 12-week fitness and healthy eating programme. As part of the weekly regime, she joined the gym at Places Leisure Eastleigh. At first she struggled but over the weeks she slowly started to find exercises getting a little easier, her energy levels improving. Now the gym is a place where she goes to because she wants to, not because she has to! It’s her newfound passion and she loves the buzz she gets after having completed a workout.
She goes to the gym several times a week, and follows a healthy-eating lifestyle. Not only is she physically in a better place – she’s dropped an incredible 35kg (five and a half stone) – but also she’s mentally stronger.
Her advice to anyone avoiding activity because they feel too self-conscious or daunted about joining a gym or fitness class:
“Leave your fears at the gym door. There is no magic wand. No-one else can do it apart from you. Simply start low and then go big”.
