Meet Aimee
It’s not easy finding some 'me time' when you’re a new mum but when Aimee gave birth to baby Percy, she knew she had to do something to get back into shape. A friend told her about the Mum and Baby class programme at Places Leisure Eastleigh, so the 29-year-old thought she’d give it a bash.
Initially she was a little apprehensive. Would she be able to keep up with the pace of classes? What if baby Percy became restless? But her mind was put at ease as soon as she attended her first Mum and Baby Spin Class. Here she found a safe, relaxed and enjoyable environment, a place in which she could exercise while keeping an eye on her son, as well as share her experiences of motherhood with other new friends.
A year on and Aimee has not only noticed a huge improvement in her overall fitness but she has made a whole new circle of friends. By exercising with other new mums, women with whom she can identify, chat to and share problems, Aimee has seen her confidence soar and the stresses, that are often a by-product of motherhood, have been eased.
Her message to other new mums who may feel shy or self-conscious about joining an exercise class:
"You're not alone. Just join a class. You'll make some great friends while having fun and getting fit."
