The Design Code
Have your say on the new Design Code at One Horton Heath
We’re inviting residents, local organisations, and stakeholders to give feedback on the new draft of the Design Code for the One Horton Heath development
The Design Code is an important planning document that will help guide how new homes, streets, green spaces, and public areas are designed at OHH. It ensures that the development reflects the community’s priorities, delivers a high standard of design, and creates a place that feels welcoming, connected, and locally distinctive.
What is a Design Code?
A Design Code sets out clear and structured guidance to shape how a place is built. It includes details on:
- Types and styles of housing
- Street layouts, walking and cycling connections
- Landscaping, trees, and open spaces
- Materials, finishes, and architectural details
- Public outdoor and community spaces
The aim is to support well-planned, high-quality development that fits in with the area and meets long-term community needs.
This document will be used by developers, designers, planning officers, and the local community throughout the planning and design process.
📄 Want to know what’s not included in the Design Code?
Some topics, such as housing tenure, service delivery, or planning policy — are outside the scope of the Code.
You can read more in this short guide: What is not included in the Design Code (PDF)
How to Take Part
We’ve prepared a short survey to gather feedback on different parts of the new Design Code. You don’t need to answer every question, just the ones that are most relevant or important to you.
Before you begin, we recommend reviewing the Design Code documents to help inform your responses.
Why Your Feedback Matters
This is your opportunity to shape how One Horton Heath evolves. Your feedback will help ensure that the final version of the Design Code reflects local values, priorities, and lived experience — not just technical design standards.
If you have any questions about the consultation or need help accessing the documents, please contact the Planning Policy Team:
