Over 3,130 sporting sessions were booked within just 24 hours following the launch of the Council’s Park Sport activity on 28 June – the programme will run from 25 July to 28 August.
The Council website was overwhelmed with local parents booking their children onto an exciting range of activities throughout the borough during the summer holidays coinciding with the Rio Olympics!
Already Park Sport golf sessions are fully booked and there are also only a handful of places left on the sailing and fishing sessions. Not surprisingly at this time of year the tennis sessions for children are also going fast. All sessions are delivered by the best local clubs and coaches in the area, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to carry on the sport after the summer is over. The scheme is heavily subsidised and costs just a £1 booking fee per person per session.
Bookings can now be made online on the Council’s MyEastleigh website page and there are hundreds of sessions to choose from at over 25 locations across the borough.
Now in its twelfth year, Parksport offers a range of sessions including baseball, basketball, cricket, cycling, dance, fishing, football, golf, sailing, tennis, and volleyball, together with skate jams and free swimming sessions for children between 8-16 years old. New activities for this year include handball, hula hoop fit trix and boxercise.
Cabinet Lead for Leisure Cllr Alan Broadhurst said, ”It’s great that Park sport continues to be so popular. Our local young people can enjoy a diverse programme of activities and I would encourage parents to sign their children up to sessions as soon as possible and not miss out on this great opportunity.”
Organised by Eastleigh Borough Council, Park Sport is sponsored by CooperVision and First Wessex.
