The Lakeside Centre, the new home for users of Eastleigh Lakeside Country Park, which is being developed by the Borough Council, is nearing completion and is previewed with a Family Fun Day this Saturday 24 September, from 1pm to 4pm.
The free event features a band, face-painting, the Funky PlayBus, willow workshops and Forest School activities.
The Lakeside Centre supports a range of waterborne activities, including: canoeing, angling, model boating, open-water swimming and Newfoundland dog rescue training.
Hamble-based builders, The Construction Partnership, are putting the finishing touches to the new centre which includes improved changing rooms and disabled facilities, a multi-purpose training and conference suite that is available for hire and can accommodate up to 60 people, rentable office space, and a permanent home for some of the Council's Countryside staff who take care of the park and its users.
From 1pm to 3pm this Saturday, visitors can see canoe and Newfoundland dog rescue displays on the water, and from 3pm model boat displays take place.
The Lakeside Centre consists of two buildings – the main centre and a storage building – each with a distinctive and complementary curved design. The centre is extremely energy-efficient and incorporates the traditional skill of rough-stone walling. Full-height windows offer superb views across the water.
