If your items are in good working condition (and have a sewn in red or blue fire label if upholstered) you could donate them to a local charity or reuse organisation. This is better for the environment, saving raw materials and is a sustainable way of reducing waste.
These organisations offer a free furniture collection for items in good working condition:
Coronavirus update - if items are from a household where any occupant(s) has COVID -19 symptoms, or has recently had Covid-19 and could be in isolation then items should be decontaminated and left for 72 hours in line with Government advice.
If your items are not in good condition or suitable for reuse you can certain items to our household reuse and recycling centres or if they are not items we are able to accept there, we offer a Bulky Waste Collection service for the following items:
We can collect:
- Furniture (such as sofas, chairs and tables)
- Fridge freezers
- Washing machines
- Carpets (underlay and carpet classed as two separate items)
- Bathroom suites (bath, toilet, sinks), please note we do not collect cast iron baths.
We cannot collect:
- DIY waste such as fixtures or fittings
- Kitchen units/worktops, Tiles
- Black bags, Miscellaneous waste
All items MUST be easily accessible and placed at the front edge of any type of property.
Please remember that if you pay someone to take away this kind of waste you must check that they are a registered waste carrier and make sure they give you a waste transfer note to state where the rubbish is being taken from and to. You may be guilty of an offence under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 if your waste has been found to be dumped, even if it was physically dumped by someone else. Costs and booking a collection
Our bulky waste collection gives each item a points value which corresponds to how much your collection will cost. Please see our household item list to clarify the points value of the items you would have for collection.
The cost of a collection is a minimum of £60.00 for up to eight points and £7.50 for each additional point.
For customers on means tested benefits, the minimum cost is £39.50 for up to eight points and £4.75 for each additional point.
How to request a bulky waste collection:
Book below or by telephone: contact our customer service team (8:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday) on 023 8068 8440 and ask to arrange a bulky waste collection.
Please note collections are made from the front of property. The crews are unable to enter the property to collect items.
Changes can be made to an order up to 48 hours before the collection. Likewise we can cancel a booking and make a full refund as long as we are informed at least 48 hours before the collection is due.
