Verification of Identity

We may ask you for ID

We May Ask You For ID

We may need to verify your identity to make sure we are talking only to the people who have authority to do so.

To do this, if you come to see us in person, the easiest way is by showing us a physical form of ID. We can accept a passport, driving licence, PASS card or a Blue Badge. The document doesn't have to be in date, but the picture should still be a good likeness to you.

If you don't have an ID document, we will ask you some questions to verify, things that you will know the answer to that will help us prove you are who you say you are.

If you chose to call us on the phone, we will also ask you the series of questions to verify you.

To make sure we are fulfilling our duties under the Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation, which ensure we keep your personal information safe, we need to verify that we are speaking with only those that should have access to your information.

We carry out these checks to protect you and to protect the Council, ensuring we meet our Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulation obligations. We understand it can be frustrating, especially if we aren't able to verify you, and we ask you to please be understanding that we are simply fulfilling our duty to protect your sensitive information.

You can find out more about how we handle your data here.
