Arborist

Salary: £16,000 - £30,000, opportunity to be employed or self employed 

Hours:  41 – 43 hours a week, occasional weekend work (often at short notice) 

Learning: National Diploma / Degree.  Relevant courses in; forestry, arboriculture, woodland ecology and conservation.  Entry via apprenticeship or job placement following study.  Specialist training in using equipment / tools essential and Health & Safety. 

Skills: Physical fitness, good listening & communication, teamwork, leadership, attention to detail, ability to follow strict health & safety procedures, good organisation 

Top tip: Volunteer with a local community garden, learning about plants / pruning / tree varieties.  Work experience with a local professional or part time work at a garden centre nursery.
