Garden waste collections
Join thousands of residents who benefit from fortnightly garden waste collections
Residents will be unable to join or garden waste service between 12 noon on Thursday 7 July until 12 noon on Wednesday 13 July.
During this period we will be making improvements to our garden waste financial systems that will make it easier for residents to manage their account and also join the scheme by direct debit. While this work is taking place the link at the bottom of this page will not be available.
Our fortnightly garden waste collection service will help you:
- Save petrol with fewer journeys to your local recycling centre
- Save time; simply fill up your green bin (with the brown lid) and place it out for collection on your collection day and we do the rest
- Avoid unwanted 'creepy crawlies' in your vehicle
What can you put in your garden waste bin?
- Grass cuttings
- Hedge and shrub clippings
- Cut flowers
- Leaves, twigs and bark
- Small plants and weeds
What you can’t put in your garden waste bin
- Food waste
- Animal waste
- Plastic bags, pots or trays
- Tree stumps
- Brick, rubble, soil and stones
- Large branches (over 10cm / 4” in diameter)
How does the service work?
When you subscribe to the service you will receive a 240 litre wheeled bin and a welcome letter detailing your collection dates for the year. You may purchase more than one bin (prices detailed below).
Your garden waste will be collected on a fortnightly basis, with the exception of the Christmas/New Year period.
Simply put your garden waste in your bin and leave it by the kerbside by 6.30am every fortnight, on your specified collection day. We cannot pick up bagged waste or side waste within this scheme and the bin lid must close.
Our terms and conditions have changed
Your garden waste subscription is now taken out on behalf of the property and not the homeowner. If you move house, you must leave the garden waste bin at the property. So customers moving to another property within the Borough will need to purchase a new subscription for the new address should they require one, unless there is already one in place from the previous homeowner. Therefore if you are planning to move house you will need to carefully consider if you want to purchase a bin for your current property as the garden waste collection service is not transferable and is not refundable. See the full Terms and Conditions below.
