OHH Artist in Residence
Simon Bray
Spring 2026 update
One Horton Heath artist-in-residence Simon Bray commenced a PhD Studentship with Eastleigh Borough Council, John Hansard Gallery and Winchester School of Art at the University of Southampton in Autumn 2025.
In the first six months Simon has completed induction and secured ethics approval for his research into socially-engaged photography; to work with residents in and around the new development exploring the local environment.
Simon has also been undertaking research at the Hampshire Records Office, unearthing a unique collection of handmade photograph albums by Hampshire-based amateur photographer John Humphrey, documenting the roads of Hampshire villages from 1989-1992. Simon has been retracing Humphrey’s steps and capturing images from the same vantage points thirty years later, to better understand how the landscape is continuing to change.
Later this year, Simon will be inviting local residents to join him for photography workshops and walks visiting some of the locations featured in Humphrey’s albums.
Some of Simon’s recent photographs around the One Horton Heath site are shared here – use the side arrows to scroll through the images.
