Partners come together to support the wellbeing of local new mums
Nearly a hundred local mums attended a wellbeing festival as part of the relaunch of This Girl Can Eastleigh.
The New Mums Wellbeing Festival took place at the new community centre at North Stoneham, YMCA Eastleigh, with support from Places Leisure Eastleigh and Vivid Homes.
Free taster sessions were held for postnatal health, baby care, and safe and supported physical activity for mum and baby. 27 stallholders attended, with organisations such as the Eastleigh District NCT, Southampton Maternity Voices and Barnados represented.
The Council’s SportWorks team have relaunched This Girl Can Eastleigh for 2022. This Girl Can is funded by Sport England and is a very successful national movement to encourage more women to become more physically active in an authentic and motivating way. This wave of activity focuses on Active Mums and it continues with Meet the Mums interviews and pay-as-you-go mum and baby sessions.
Meet the Mums interviews feature women being open and honest about both the challenges and benefits of being a mum and being active. The women had attended mum and baby sessions at Places Leisure Eastleigh and were treated to hair and make-up, activewear, and photo shoot to help promote body confidence.
. They wereThe PAYG Mum and Baby Sessions are taking place in North Stoneham, Boyatt Wood, Netley, Hedge End. Activities include: Legs, Bums and Tums; Fitness Yoga, Buggy Workout and Aerial Hoop.
Three of the four sessions are part of the outreach project for the Places Leisure Eastleigh’s Parent and Baby programme. The Council have funded postnatal training for three personal trainers to ensure mums are supported whilst they get their hearts pumping.

A further This Girl Can wave is planned for autumn focusing on women over 50.
