Courses and activities for adults across the Borough
The annual New Year Boost programme, organised by the Council’s SportWorks team, is helping adults in the Borough to boost their health at the start of 2026.
Local providers and venues have created a menu of activities and resources to help more adults build healthier habits for 2026.
There are free options, pay-as-you-go, block course bookings - and some include exclusive New Year Boost discounts to support all budgets.
Residents aged 16 years-old and above can choose from beginner courses and options over three levels, depending on their needs and starting point. The levels begin with ‘Getting started’, helping to get you moving with support or self-led, group activities at more of a leisurely pace, or choose ‘Kick-start’ and ‘Push yourself’ options to get the heart pumping. This year we also have a new women-only category!
January/February is a great time to kick-start healthy habits and sometimes it can be difficult to know where to look or what is on offer, so this scheme provides a one-stop-shop of different activities - showcasing the variety and quality of activity providers and venues in the local area.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Councillor Tonia Craig, said: “Our annual New Year health and physical activity programme has been successfully boosting residents for many years. It allows us to celebrate the amazing local providers and venues we have in the Borough, and I thank them all for partaking in the scheme this year. We have a great range of inclusive options for residents at all levels and budgets”.
