Licensing act policy
The Licensing Act 2003 requires the Council to have a formal statement of licensing policy, which should be taken into account when making and determining applications.
The Licensing Act 2003 came into force in part on the "first appointed day", 7 February 2005, when the council started processing both premises and personal licence applications under the new system. The legislation came into full force on 24 November 2005 and radically changes to previous systems for licensing sales of alcohol and the provision of regulated entertainment and late night refreshment.
The Council's Statement of Licensing Policy, originally published with effect from 7 January 2005, explains how the Licensing Authority will exercise its licensing functions under the new Act. It was revised and renewed with effect from 21 February 2019 and is available to download via the link below. This policy will cover the period up to January 2024.
