Seated in Nature

Commissioning artistic seating for green spaces in Hedge End, West End and Botley

Artist Nicola Henshaw has been commissioned to make carved oak benches, designed through a co-creation process with residents in Botley, Hedge End and West End.

Nicola has asked people at community lunch clubs to share their memories of life during and after the war for benches themed on ‘Our Past’; primary school children have mapped their favourite places for ‘Our Present’ benches; and young people have contributed their ideas for ‘Our Future’ to be translated into contemporary designs for the seating.

The Commission is funded from Developer’s Contributions for Public Art, to be used within the Local Area.
