Urgent Tree Safety Work at Eastleigh Cemetery
There will be restricted access for visitors to some areas of Brookwood Cemetery due to essential tree work to be carried out by Network Rail to ensure the safety of the railway and those who visit and work in the cemetery. Work will be carried out on two trees on the railway embankment alongside Brookwood Cemetery in Eastleigh on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2021.
The trees are in poor health and have branches overhanging small areas of burial plots in the cemetery. Due to their condition, Network Rail will be building a tower to totally encasing one of the trees so that their team can work safely to remove the branches. A low-level protective structure will also be constructed beneath the overhanging branches and over the top of some burial plots to help protect them against falling branches. Both trees will be reduced to a point where risk to public and railway are as low as possible.
The site will be constructed in week commencing Monday 27 September with the works taking place during the day on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2021. The equipment will then be removed between by 6 October 2021.
