Eastleigh residents urged to come along to WheelFest
The event in Southampton showcases wheelchair based sports
The second-ever WheelFest is rolling into town next month.
The wheelchair sports showcase is coming to Southampton on Saturday, June 7– and Eastleigh people are being encouraged to come along.
It’s an exciting, action-packed event offering the public, particularly the disabled community, a chance to experience the thrill and skill of wheelchair-based sports.
Taking place from 10am to 4pm at the Solent Sports Complex, Solent University (SO14 0YN), WheelFest is a free-entry, family-friendly event designed to celebrate inclusivity, encourage participation, and support local disability sports clubs.
Co-hosted by Ross Care and Solent University, and proudly supported by Paralympic legend Peter Hull MBE PLY, the event features a dynamic schedule:
The opening ceremony is being led by the Lord Mayor of Southampton supported by Aaron Phipps MBE, GB Paralympic Gold Medal winning Wheelchair Rugby player from Tokyo 2020.
There will be try-it sessions in wheelchair rugby, basketball, dance, and powerchair football. Also featured at the event will be; Wheelchair skills workshops by Freedom Wheelchair Skills; on-site food and drink by Blake Entertainment as well as free entry and free parking.
Peter Hull MBE PLY said: “WheelFest is about giving people of all abilities the chance to discover the excitement and accessibility of wheelchair sport.
“It's a great opportunity to try something new, meet the athletes, and get involved in a supportive and fun community.”
WheelFest is proudly supported by a range of local clubs and organisations, including: Solent Sharks Wheelchair Rugby, Hampshire Harriers Wheelchair Basketball Club, Move Momentum and Solent Powerchair Football.
