Eastleigh is hosting one of 11 community COVID test centres for people showing no symptoms of the virus.
As part of the County-wide coronavirus response, Hampshire County Council asked Eastleigh Borough Council to set up and run an Asymptomatic COVID-19 Test Centre. Eastleigh's is based at The Point theatre in Eastleigh town centre, which is operated by the Borough Council.
Eleven community test centres are opening across the county and started operating from Monday (22 February). The appointment-only scheme, which will run for six weeks, is aimed at Borough residents and people who travel to work in the Borough, particularly key workers who cannot work from home and who need to leave their place of residence to do their jobs.
Eastleigh's centre is run by a team of Eastleigh Borough Council staff, many of whom have volunteered their time to run the facility. Tests can be booked online 24 hours in advance by visiting www.eastleigh.gov.uk/communitytestingeastleigh or on the County Council website.
Appointments should take no more than 30 minutes. The centre is open from Monday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm.
Anyone receiving a positive test result will need to follow self-isolation guidance but will not need to book a follow-up test.
Eastleigh Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Councillor Tonia Craig, said: “We’re at a crucial stage in the pandemic and we were pleased to offer The Point and members of the Eastleigh Borough Council team for the local community test centre. We’re sure it will make vital contribution to the battle to drive down COVID infection rates and I hope the residents it is aimed at will take the opportunity to get tested. “
