Tenth Eastleigh Sport Awards go online during lockdown
A ceremony recognising the efforts and achievements of sports people in Eastleigh Borough is going online for 2020.
The Eastleigh Sport & Physical Activity Alliance (SPAA) has announced that the tenth Eastleigh Sports Awards will still go ahead later this month despite coronavirus lockdown.
The virtual ceremony will take place on the Eastleigh SPAA Twitter account (@EastleighSPAA) from 7pm, Monday 18 May. Social distancing guidance has led to the cancellation of the annual awards ceremony, which would havetakern place at The Hilton at The Ageas, Hedge End, for the safety of the invited guests.
"We thank all the sponsors, shortlistees and their nominators for their patience during this time and we are excited to be able to provide a version of the awards ceremony online and continue an essence of normality and togetherness during this unprecedented time. We invite you to follow the ceremony through a series of tweets and celebrate your local sporting heroes for their talent, determination and support of physical activity in the Borough. Twelve categories showcase a successful 2019 for schools, officials, coaches, volunteers and projects as well as talented athletes."
Anyone can take part by following the series of tweets on @EastleighSPAA and share your suspense and celebration posts across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram using #EastleighSportsAwards and @SportHealthEBC. Twitter was selected as the central platform due to not requiring a login to view.
Cabinet Lead for Health, Cllr Tonia Craig, said: “It is so important during this challenging time to continue positive events such as these in creative ways to bring a breath of normality. This tenth year anniversary of the Eastleigh Sports Awards is essentially important to highlight a successful twelve months of many very passionate and talented individuals, groups and teams in the Borough. They all contribute to making a variety of sports and physical activities inspiring, challenging and fun. This is the ideal opportunity to celebrate your local talent and promote your unsung heroes whilst still staying home.”
