Swan Centre wins gold at Environment Awards
The Swan Centre, Eastleigh receives another environmental award.
The Swan Centre, Eastleigh announced today that it has scooped another prestigious environmental award at the annual Green Apple Environment Awards, held at the Houses of Parliament in London. This is the third year in a row that the community shopping centre has walked away with an award, and this year they secured themselves a Regional Gold Award for Waste Management.
The Centre competed against more than 500 nominees within the Environmental Best Practice category and won the award for a 110% improvement in recycling.
Daniel Kitchen; Swan Centre Manager, and Lauretta Mitchell; Operations Manager, attended the presentation ceremony on Monday 25 November, where they received their Green Apple trophy and certificate. ‘We were delighted to be recognised for our environmental efforts at the Green Apple Awards for a third year, and especially for waste management, as this award truly recognises the hard work that our cleaning team and tenants do in sorting and segregating our waste.’ said Daniel Kitchen. “We could not have achieved such an impressive improvement in our recycling, without their diligence, commitment and focus.”
As a result of this Green Apple Award success, The Swan Centre has now been invited to have their winning paper published in The Green Book; the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice, so that others around the world can follow their example and learn from their achievement. They could also progress to represent their country in the Green World Award next year.
The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and have become established as the country’s major recognition for environmental endeavour among companies, councils, communities and countries.
The Green Apple Awards are supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institution for Wastes Management and other independent bodies.
