Solar farm gets the go-ahead
60,000 solar panels on 370-acre site off Allington Lane
A major solar farm in the West End area of Eastleigh Borough has been given the go-ahead by Councillors in the latest move to extend the Council’s solar power generating portfolio.
The Hedge End, West End & Botley Local Area Committee has approved plans to install around 60,000 solar panels across three fields on the 370-acre site off Allington Lane.
The 27 megawatt array could produce enough energy to power 11,000 homes.
The Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Rupert Kyrle, said: “Climate change is a significant issue and it is getting worse. Clean energy will mean a more resilient supply at an affordable price.”
The Council already owns and operates smaller scale solar generating assets around the Borough.
