SkateJam marks the opening of new Freespace skatepark
The new Freespace skatepark at Chandler's Ford is ready to open, following a extensive refurbishment, to provide local youngsters with the chance to enjoy the exciting new ramp layout.
Freespace Skatepark was closed following a severe vandalism incident that resulted in the majority of the ramps being removed. Local youngsters helped design the new facility, as part of an extensive consultation, that has resulted in an exciting new design for them to enjoy. It will now reopen on Tuesday 24 August at 1pm with a free SkateJam.
The new facility has been funded with £150,000 from Eastleigh Local Area Committee and £75,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust.
Chair of Eastleigh Area Committee, Cllr Alex Bourne said, “We are delighted that the new Freespace Skatepark is now ready to open. We ensured that local young people were involved in the design of their new skatepark and it's fantastic that their thoughts and ideas have now become a reality.”
The SkateJam event will run from 1pm to 4.30pm for ages 8-16 years old and Team Extreme will be on hand to guide and inspire youngsters throughout the event. Youngsters can bring their bikes, scooters, and skateboards or there will be some available to use.
At 5pm there will be a demonstration by Team Extreme and a ribbon cutting by the Mayor of Eastleigh and Councillor Nick Couldrey who will officially open this exciting new facility.
