Residents have their say on One Horton Heath green spaces
Green spaces and natural habitats across the exciting One Horton Heath development are the subject of a public consultation which runs until 24 November. It includes a public drop-in event on 15 November.
Eastleigh Borough Council’s ‘infrastructure-first’ approach, which is already delivering a new link road and sustainable energy solutions, will ensure that green elements are in place before new homes are delivered. What were previously farmed fields have already been transformed into habitat-rich open spaces, and local people are now being invited to help shape the next stage in this crucial part of the scheme via an online survey and face-to-face engagement session.
As part of its ‘green infrastructure’ programme, the One Horton Heath project team are continuing to deliver a host of connected, nature-rich open spaces across the 35.5 hectares (88 acres) of the development. The proposed scheme will see designated spaces that allow habitats to thrive, with maintained and enhanced green corridors, upgraded walking and cycling links in both north-south and east-west directions and sustainable drainage systems, providing attractive features that will also enhance the biodiversity and make the open spaces enjoyable places to visit.
Councillor Keith House, the Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council said: “Ensuring that One Horton Heath incorporates green spaces that enhance the nature of the local area was always a key ambition for the scheme. As well as putting built infrastructure in place before homes were delivered, creating ‘green infrastructure’ early in the programme will play a huge role in the quality of life and wellbeing for existing and future residents.”
