Residents encouraged to give a gift card for Christmas and keep spending locally
A new scheme from our Economy team has provided shops, restaurants and other businesses across Eastleigh Borough with a slick solution to offering gift vouchers for their merchandise, hospitality or experiences this festive shopping season.
The Eastleigh Borough gift card is a scheme run through the Council with an aim to encourage residents in the Borough to shop locally this festive season. The card can be loaded with any amount of money (minimum £10) and can be spent in a wide range of places across the Borough, it is a brilliant gift to give someone that is hard to buy for and in turn supports the local high street.
David Mackie from Steam Town Brew Co near Eastleigh town centre/Bishopstoke said: “Where the Eastleigh Borough Gift Card can be so effective is in widening our reach in the local community. If you love our beers and burgers, the chances are your friends and family will too! Come and redeem your gift card on any in-person purchase made at our Eastleigh taproom.”
Among some of the businesses that are accepting the gift card are cafes, restaurants, shops, beauticians and pubs. The scheme is free for a company to join and, as long as they accept Mastercard payments, they can sign up to be a part of the gift card incentive and allow customers to spend money in their establishment.
Council’s Cabinet member for Economy, Derek Pretty said: “Giving a gift card to a loved one this Christmas is a great alternative to buying something new and gives the opportunity for them to choose something that they really want.
Not only will giving a gift card help our local economy, but it will also help the environment as it could prevent unwanted gifts going to landfill.”
We're urging residents to support their local high streets this Christmas and by purchasing a gift card it can help to keep the money in the Borough.
