Popular walking route cleared on Hamble Common
Local residents can continue to enjoy their exercise on Hamble Common thanks to the swift action of Eastleigh Borough’s Council countryside team to clear a fallen tree from a popular route .
The team received a report late on Tuesday afternoon of an oak having been blown over in the wind, completely blocking a route in the copse on Hamble Common, that is managed by the Council. The countryside team attended first thing the following morning, cleared the tree and made the site safe.
A Council spokesperson said, “Hamble Common is a popular area for local people to enjoy a walk and we were able to clear the tree and make the route clear again for people to be able to walk as part of their daily exercise. The tree was in good health but because the ground is still soft from the winter and the tree is in full leaf it created a ‘sail’ and came down in the recent strong winds.”
