Poppies start to turn bandstand red
Since the Covid year of 2020 we have placed giant red poppies on Eastleigh Bandstand in Leigh Road Recreation Ground in advance of Remembrance commemorations. We and the Royal British Legion will be decorating this iconic local landmark with poppies leading up to Armistice and Remembrance Day. A big thank you to the Chilworth WI who knitted and put up the poppies that are around the bandstand.
This year local residents, groups and organisations are again being urged to help turn Eastleigh Bandstand red with poppies to provide a very visual show of support to honour the sacrifices that our armed forces and civilians have made. The bandstand is just a few metres away from the War Memorial and hosts the band and the bugler who plays the last post as part of the ceremony
The Council’s Armed Forces Champion Cllr Tonia Craig said: “It will be great to again decorate the bandstand with poppies and we are encouraging local people and organisations to help turn the bandstand red with a sea of poppies.”
She added: "Local people can go along anytime before Remembrance to tie their homemade or bought poppies around the railings of the bandstand to remember their loved ones. In this way, we can, as a community, come together to show our support in a very visual way to honour the sacrifices that our armed forces and civilians have made.”
