Thank you for helping our community
An open letter to Eastleigh's coronavirus volunteers
I am writing to you to express my gratitude on behalf of the residents of Eastleigh Borough for volunteering to support our most vulnerable people during this unprecedented situation.
It’s been heart-warming to see so many of you offer to deliver food, medicine and other essentials to residents who are having to self-isolate because they are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill from coronavirus (COVID-19).
Equally, those who are calling residents, checking they are ok and being a friendly voice to talk to on the end of the phone are helping to brighten people’s days, in what will no doubt feel like an especially lonely time for many.
Over a thousand of you have offered your assistance, either through the Borough Council, or one of the fantastic community groups the Council is working with, including One Community, Chandler's Ford Help, Eastleigh Community Aid and Kings Community Church. The response has been truly overwhelming and with so many volunteering, some of you may not have been called upon yet. Rest assured, our team of coordinators have your details and will be in touch should demand escalate. In the meantime, thank you for offering your time, for being ready to help, and for staying at home and helping to protect our NHS.
It is through actions such as yours that our community, the rest of the country and indeed the wider world will overcome this virus, through togetherness, unity of purpose and compassion for others.
Thank you again and best wishes to you and your family.
Yours faithfully,
Councillor Darshan Mann
Mayor of Eastleigh
