Newly refurbished Pirelli Park opens before Christmas
Work on the Pirelli Park site in the centre of Eastleigh, which includes an exciting new play area, is now complete and has reopened for families in the area to enjoy just before Christmas.
We have incorporated ideas from the community into the final design of the play area which was funded by Bellway, the developers of the surrounding housing, as part of their planning permission.
The project has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic but we hope the park will be a welcome area for children to exercise and explore during the festive break.
Chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Councillor Tina Campbell said: “We’re so pleased to be able to open this play area during the Christmas break. As a Council we’re committed to promoting health and wellbeing for residents of all ages; the transformed Pirelli Park will give local families a chance to get out into the open air, with some exciting, state-of-the-art play equipment for the children. People in the neighbourhood gave us some great ideas for the design that reflects the site’s heritage as an important cable manufacturer.”
The design of the new park is based on the concept of the Pirelli Cableworks, which previously occupied the site. It interprets the shapes of the cable drums and cables, and has been designed by architects John Puttick Associates and was constructed by Duncan and Groves Ltd, following a several community engagement days.
