A new temporary market to help promote local businesses will open on Wednesday 26 August on the former Budgens supermarket site in Hedge End village centre. It’s proposed that the market will run weekly from 10am to 3pm every Wednesday and if it proves popular, it is planned to run until Christmas.

The initiative from the Eastleigh Borough Council is part of COVID-19 recovery plans to help local businesses to promote their products and services at the high profile location in the centre of the village. The outdoor market will provide the opportunity for local residents to safely shop in the village centre with social distancing measures in place and allow businesses to have an outdoor space to sell and promote their products or services. In particular it will be helpful for those smaller businesses that may have to limit the number of customers on their premises or need help to raising their profile after lockdown.

Chair of Hedge End, West End & Botley Local Area Committee Cllr Cynthia Garton said, “This is a great opportunity to use this high-profile area at the heart of our village to support our local businesses.  During these unprecedented times, it is important local residents shop local and support our local businesses. I encourage local business and residents to take advantage of this opportunity to create a vibrant village centre market in Hedge End.”
