New Hampshire Sports Club Conference a success
The Council successfully hosted a new Sports Club Conference in the Borough 22 November 2023 with clubs and sports providers travelling from across Hampshire to attend.
70 people from 50 different sports clubs and providers were represented from across the county to learn new ways to improve the experience for their members and take away new ideas to improve their club’s sustainability and inclusivity during challenging times.
The inspirational Tokyo 2022 Paralympian gold-medallist, Aaron Phipps MBE, impressed delegates with hard-hitting stories of his journey into Wheelchair Rugby and the Great Britain team, as well as his massive achievement to be the first disabled person to scale Kilimanjaro unassisted.
This was followed by two workshops led by the team at Solent University Southampton and the Sport England Lottery funded programme - Club Matters. Delegates attended both workshops, which covered the subject areas of club performance, management, development, and funding.
The Council’s Cabinet Lead for Health, Councillor Tonia Craig, said: “A big thank you to all the sports providers and club representatives who attended this great opportunity for their members. It’s key that we support these community organisations during these challenging financial times and improve the health and wellbeing experience for all.”
