A major development, that will bring new business facilities and create jobs in Eastleigh town centre, has been given the go-ahead by Borough Councillors.

They agreed plans for Navigator Quarter, a 84-acre site adjacent to Southampton Airport, will create up to 92,000 sq m of high quality business space, supporting as many as 3,000 jobs and delivering significant investment in local infrastructure and sustainable transport. The site is a special economic zone within the Solent Freeport that offers tax and customs incentives to help drive investment and create new jobs.

At this week’s meeting of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Councillors gave the green light to infrastructure works, including a new access road and utilities, that will pave the way for the phased delivery of the wider site.

Located close the M27, the development will deliver funding for a range of transport improvements, including upgrades to Wide Lane Bridge, Spitfire Roundabout and Wide Lane Roundabout, alongside new pedestrian and cycle links, micro mobility hubs and support for enhanced bus services.

Strong environmental protections are core to the project, including habitat creation, a commitment to biodiversity net gain and sustainable drainage systems to safeguard the nearby River Itchen. All buildings will be required to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards.

The scheme is seen as playing a key role in supporting the Borough’s long term economic growth.
