After a number of taster session blocks in 2019 and support for volunteer recruitment through Cycling UK, our SportWorks team are launching Mums on Bikes from Places Leisure Eastleigh.

This project aims to support more women and families back into cycling as part of a healthy active lifestyle. It will provide an opportunity for parents to get back in the saddle in a safely led environment, utilising the dedicated off-road cycle route around Fleming Park Recreation Ground and the good network of other off-road cycle routes in the area. The guided rides would offer the added benefit of exercising in the outdoors, whilst offering a social and supportive environment for mothers to build their confidence around returning to cycling together with their little ones.

Bikes, trailers and helmets are provided and all rides are led by qualified Cycling UK leaders. Funding has been secured via a joint bid with Southampton City Council to the Department of Transport Sustainable Travel Transition Year Fund. This project is led by Cycling UK and the Council.

The trailers are suitable for children aged between 12 months and 4 years.
