Long serving Councillor to step down
Councillor David Airey will step down from his seat at this year’s council elections in May after serving as a Borough Councillor for 34 years, spanning five decades.
Councillor Airey, who is currently Cabinet Lead for Transport first joined the Council in 1986 and served until 1994 and then from 1996 to the present day. Throughout that time he has always represented the Netley Abbey area of the borough and Hamble from 2018.
He was Chair of Bursledon Hamble & Hound Local Area Committee for 13 years and also chairs the Council’s Licensing Committee and the Southampton International Airport Consultative Committee which is independent of the Council.
Cllr Airey said, “I would like to thank the electorate of Netley Abbey, Old Netley, Butlocks Heath and Hamble for supporting me for the 34 years that I have served and it has been a privilege to represent them. I have always had an interest in the areas of transport and planning and I am proud of many of the improvements we have made for our residents. I would also like to thank the many colleagues that I have served with, and the Council staff for always being cooperative and helpful.”
