Local college students help with Town Centre murals
The Council brought the Together We Make Eastleigh (TWME) project and Barton Peveril College students together to help the resident artists in their designs for the new brand and murals for Eastleigh Town Centre.
Nathan Evans and Sophie Rawlingson led a workshop for a group of art and media students at Barton Peveril College. They took them through the creative process - from receiving a design brief, finding inspiration, and researching key themes, to create designs for themselves. Students were encouraged to research Eastleigh Town Centre and then create designs and motifs that fulfilled the objectives of Nathan’s mural brief.
Design input from the students will be used to inspire the mural and brand designs by the artists.
The mural and other improvements are intended for the start of the alleyway running from Costa at Market Street to Iceland on High Street and a section of Mitchell Road Car Park’s wall facing onto the eastern end of Regal Walk.
The brand designs are illustrations to compliment the new Eastleigh Town Centre brand for Eastleigh Town Council, Eastleigh BID (Visit Eastleigh), The Council and other partners.
The Together We Make Eastleigh project, guided by Wayne Hemingway MBE and Urban Movement, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by Eastleigh Town Council, Eastleigh BID, and Hampshire County Council, is an exciting partnership project aiming to shape the future of Eastleigh Town Centre.
Principal of Barton Peveril College, Rob Temple, commented “We are delighted our students had the opportunity to collaborate on the Together We Make Eastleigh project. This initiative provided our Art and Media students with invaluable, real-world experience - as understanding the opportunities and compromises involved in working for a client will only enhance their employability skills and help them develop as artists.”
Eastleigh Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Transport and Economy, Cllr James Duguid Said: “The people and businesses of Eastleigh have been key to this project with a large number of touchpoints for feedback and valuable contributions to improve Eastleigh Town Centre for the future. We welcome the curiosity and creative contributions of the student group during the workshop. We also extend a thank you to Barton Peveril College for hosting this event and look forward to engaging with your students in future.”
