Volunteers needed to support the Tree and Bee Corridor project
The Tree & Bee Corridor Project is continuing to make progress in linking existing areas of woodland through the creation of a greener and more sustainable landscape.
Working with local volunteers, businesses and schools, we are creating a habitat mosaic across the landscape, comprising natural grassland which is important for native pollinators, edible hedge highways as well as larger trees such as oak and hornbeam. We are also championing our existing ‘grandparent trees’ as these are a keystone in the mosaic.
Where there is space and enough interest, we are creating edible forest gardens, which are inviting to wildlife but also bring sustainably produced organic food to your doorstep.
This green mosaic not only immerses us in nature, but also creates more habitat for wildlife such as insects, bees and butterflies, along with birds and small reptiles and mammals.
This diverse green infrastructure also helps us become more resilient to climate change through the creation of a more absorbent landscape which can soak up more rainfall run-off during storms, creating more shade and humidity, thus reducing ambient air temperatures during periods of hot weather.
The magnificent trees also absorb vast amounts of carbon and pollution form the atmosphere, cleaning the air we breathe!
