Inspector agrees to Mercury Marina hearing
The Planning Inspector that is examining the Council’s Local Plan submission has agreed to the Council’s request to consider further evidence against housing on the Mercury Marina site on Satchell Lane Hamble, so will be holding another hearing to do this.
The Council’s Local Plan submission supported a mixed marina / leisure development on the site including a hotel. However, the Inspector indicated that she would be prepared to support residential development on the site as part of the Local Plan.
The Inspector has now agreed to consider further evidence from the Council on the Mercury Marina site as part of a hearing that will be held online.
Council Leader Keith House said, “I am pleased that the Inspector has agreed to a further hearing to consider further evidence regarding Mercury Marina. The Council remains firmly opposed to any housing on the site particularly because of the poor traffic access on Satchell Lane and the complete lack of pedestrian facilities to the nearby Hamble Academy school. Our further evidence sets out the case against housing in more detail.”
The hearing will take place at 10am on Tuesday 5 January 2021.
