An extraordinarily diverse range of species including Barn Owls, badgers and even a pair of otters have been spotted by volunteers at Stoke Park Farm – Eastleigh’s proposed new green lung.

Around 22 volunteers have been monitoring the site, in collaboration with Eastleigh Borough Council ecologists and have been amazed by the sheer variety of wildlife they have seen there since the beginning of the project in May 2022.

Target species which the volunteers have been looking out for include plants, birds, butterflies, moths and reptiles.

Future monitoring plans include looking for bats and even dormice.

So far, volunteers have recorded 85 species of bird including Barn Owls, Kingfishers and Kestrels

Among the 16 butterfly species recorded are Red Admirals, Purple Hairstreak, and Essex Skippers.

Volunteers have obtained some amazing footage at the site including film of a pair of otters which investigate the camera and the graceful and silent movements of a Barn Owl, as well as badgers.
