Horton Heath project - preparatory work
As part of our One Horton Heath project, work will be starting early in the New Year on the construction of three roundabouts and a new road as part of our commitment to ensure that infrastructure, such as roads and community facilities, are delivered first.
The road will run between Bubb Lane and Allington Lane to ease traffic around Horton Heath. Cycle ways and footpaths will also be provided alongside the new roads, so people can choose sustainable options travel. The first phase of the work will be the construction of the roundabouts and this is due to start in early 2020.
Over the next few weeks the area will be prepared for building work. This will mean that some of the existing hedgerows, at the point where the new roundabouts at Bubb Lane, Burnett’s Lane and Allington Lane will be, will need to be removed. It’s very important that the timing of this is right - ie, before the winter period. This ensures that reptiles and other animals are not disturbed during hibernation.
Protecting our countryside and wildlife is vitally important and we are partnering with wildlife experts to remove the hedges with care and under close supervision. The work will be carried out in line with strict laws and EU regulations. Our ecology partners will search the area, oversee the hedge removal and help us find new homes for any reptiles and other wildlife on site. In the meantime, residents should be assured that the Council is exploring ways to create new hedgerows and habitats as part of an extensive programme of ecological restoration initiatives.
