Help with Council tax payments
Eastleigh Borough Council is offering a range of measures to reassure and help families with their Council Tax payments through the Covid-19 crisis. The coronavirus outbreak is having a significant impact on our residents and many people may be struggling to pay their bills including Council Tax, especially if they have suffered a sudden drop in income.
We want to make sure that people who need financial help during the coronavirus crisis are not worrying about their Council Tax payments. So, we have various measures in place to help our residents including payment deferrals and payment reductions over the next few months.
If any resident is worried about their ability to meet their current Council Tax payments the easiest way to contact us is to email our Customer Services Team at [email protected]
Our team will then be able to help provide individuals with the most appropriate support for them. If you are unable to email please phone 023 8068 8470, however as you can imagine we are experiencing a very high volume of calls - so please bear with us.
Council Leader Councillor Keith House said: “We know that this is a very difficult time for everyone and we are totally committed to doing what we can to help our residents during this crisis. I am extremely pleased that we are able offer some financial help and support to our residents who need it and I encourage those who are struggling financially to contact the Council for more information and to find out how we can help.” He added, “I also want to reassure our residents, who are worried, that we will not be carrying out any further recovery action over the coming months.”
Council Tax Support
Following the government’s announcement of a new Hardship Fund to help vulnerable residents to pay their Council Tax, the Council has received guidance that working age residents who benefit from our current Council Tax Support Scheme will receive up to an additional £150 reduction to their bill in line with the government’s hardship fund criteria. You do not need to apply for this payment, those households eligible for this reduction will automatically be re-billed over the coming weeks.
If you are considering claiming Universal Credit due to loss of income and also require help with your Council Tax, you will need to make a claim for Council Tax Support directly with us. Please do not delay in doing this.
