Freespace Skatepark reopens
The new Freespace Skatepark at Chandlers Ford has reopened following an extensive refurbishment, to provide local youngsters with the chance to enjoy the exciting new ramps, features and bowl.
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Nick Couldrey who officially opened the exciting new facility said, "I'm thrilled to have officially opened the new Freespace Skatepark and it's fantastic to see it already being enjoyed by hundreds of excited youngsters who are making the most of the fantastic new equipment."
Freespace Skatepark was closed following a severe vandalism incident in November 2020 that resulted in the majority of the ramps being removed. Local youngsters helped design the new facility, as part of an extensive consultation, that has resulted in an exciting new layout for them to enjoy. Eastleigh Local Area Committee has invested £150,000 in the refurbishment of Freespace together with £75,000 from the Veolia Environmental Trust.
Chair of Eastleigh Area Committee, Cllr Alex Bourne, said: “We are delighted that the new Freespace Skatepark is now ready to open. We ensured that local young people were involved in the design of their new skatepark and its fantastic that their thoughts and ideas have now become a reality.”
