Explore Hound: a new 6km adventure!

A new 6km circular walking route around the parish of Hound has been added to the free community Walk and Talk series.

20 March 2026
Westwood

Beginning at the Abbey Hall car park, the walk offers a lovely mix of countryside and urban scenery. Right at the start, you’re greeted by the impressive ruins of Netley Abbey, well worth taking a few moments to explore.

The route then follows a public footpath along the eastern edge of Westwood Nature Reserve. A newly laid gravel track makes for easier walking, though some sections can still be muddy.

Seasonal highlights make this stretch particularly special - white Blackthorn blossom lines the path, while fresh green leaves carpet the woodland floor, hinting at a beautiful Bluebell display in the coming weeks.

Leaving the reserve, the route turns left toward the railway line, joining a path that runs alongside it and leads to Netley station. From there, the walk continues into Royal Victoria Country Park, an ideal spot for a comfort break. The return leg passes through Netley Village, with lovely views of the Solent sparkling in the sunlight.

Walk & Talk sessions are free, though numbers are limited, so booking online is required.

📍The Hound Circular walk takes place on Wednesday 15 April at 10am.
