Equine flu Statement

14 January 2020

The Council is helping to provide information to horse owners across the borough following a recent outbreak of Equine Flu in Hampshire.

An outbreak of the neurological form of EHV-1 (Equine Herpes Virus Type 1) has been confirmed in Hampshire. Thorough and correct measures have been immediately introduced to quarantine the premises concerned.  The veterinary advice is that the premises at Crofton Manor will remain in quarantine and there will be following strict biosecurity procedures. This will remain in place until 28 days after the last positive case.

Advice to horse owners is please be vigilant for any respiratory symptoms, fever, swollen glands or swollen limbs and call the practice or one of the vets with any concerns.  Local equine centres are currently introducing movement restrictions.  Find out more information from the British Horse Association
