Employability day at local secondary school
For the first time since 2019, local businesses were invited in to Wyvern College in Fair Oak, to conduct mock interviews with year 10 students.
Lea Hampton, Employment and Skills Manager and Zoe Walne, Senior Communications Manager, both part of the One Horton Heath team, were invited in to the secondary school to help out at the Employability Day, giving students a taste of what to expect in an interview situation.
Students were able to experience meeting an interviewer from outside of the school environment and answer questions that they might face in an interview for a real employment opportunity.
Lea said: "As Employment and Skills Manager I know how important it is to get students prepared for the real world when they leave school. Many of the students will not have been in an interview scenario before so conducting practice interviews is a great way to build confidence in these young people."
The One Horton Heath project will open up a great deal of potential job opportunities for young people in the area, with the prospect of apprenticeships and entry level roles to help them find their career path.
Katie Bruce, Careers Leader at Wyvern College, said: " The students enjoyed the day immensely and gained such positive experiences from it. They feel much more confident and know what they need to work on before their next interview."
