Eleven-year clean sweep for Eastleigh’s StreetScene team in national awards
Best performers in street cleansing and parks
Eastleigh Borough Council’s StreetScene team are celebrating an 11-year clean sweep in national awards where they were voted Best Performer for street cleansing.
The team, part of the Council’s Hedge End-based Direct Services operation, was declared best overall performer by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) – for the eleventh year running – at an awards ceremony in Blackpool this week. The team first picked up the award in 2011.
The Direct Services team, who have continued to deliver their valued service through the COVID pandemic, also picked up the Best Performer Award for maintaining the Borough’s parks and open spaces – the fourth consecutive year they have received that accolade.
APSE is the organisation dedicated to promoting quality in the delivery of frontline services to local communities. Its awards are based on independently verified data, assessed against a range of criteria, including value-for-money, quality and the way an organisation develops its workforce.
In a competition that attracts submissions from more than 250 local authorities across the UK, Eastleigh’s achievement is unmatched: no other council service in the country has been voted the UK’s Best Street Cleansing Service on as many occasions.
The Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, Councillor Keith House, said: “Our Direct Services team have worked heroically during the pandemic and it is great to see these efforts recognised by a leading industry body. Achieving this accolade for street cleansing for the 11th year in a row is a superb achievement. The results of the team’s commitment to the task can be seen around the Borough in the streets, villages, town centres and open spaces and feedback from residents has been excellent.”
