Eastleigh lights switch-on a great success
Eastleigh’s Christmas Lights Switch-on proved to be a big success as thousands headed to the town centre to enjoy the festivities before watching Santa and the Mayor of Eastleigh switch on the lights.
Throughout the day there was live music, street food stalls, festive stilt walkers and much more to keep all the family entertained. The Mayor, Cllr Adam Manning, spent the day chatting to visitors and stall holders, meeting the festive animals at the mini farm and judging the Christmas window display competition that businesses around the town decorated to get the winning window. The winners of the competition were hairdressers, The Dolly Rockers, with their festive scene.
Across the park at The Point, Eastleigh, over 900 visitors came in to peruse the Sorting Office Christmas Makers’ Market, buying unique, handmade gifts for all the family. Excited young children came in to visit Santa in his Grotto and share their Christmas lists with him, only pre-booked time slots were available across both Saturday and Sunday.
Visitors filled the streets surrounding the Swan Centre and around Leigh Road precinct as they enjoyed browsing stalls and the fun fair rides, before turning their attention to the bandstand for the big event. The lights were switched on just after 6pm with the Mayor and Santa pushing the button to light up the town with twinkling lights, before a spectacular firework display lit up the sky.
