Eastleigh Active, in partnership with Places Leisure Eastleigh and supported by Wates Group, is inviting girls and their families to attend its upcoming 'All About Her' launch event. The event will showcase a range of girls-only sports and physical activity opportunities available across Eastleigh this summer, helping to inspire more girls to get active, build confidence and enjoy being involved in sport.
Staff from Wates Group will be offering interactive activities, a photobooth and opportunities to learn more about women working in construction.
The event will highlight opportunities available through the Eastleigh Active summer programme, which aims to encourage more girls to get involved in sport and physical activity in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Research shows that girls are more likely to drop out of physical activity as they get older, often due to a lack of confidence, suitable opportunities or feeling uncomfortable in traditional sporting environments. The girls-only sessions have been developed to help address these barriers and provide spaces where girls can build skills, confidence and friendships while having fun.
This summer's programme includes girls-only sessions in tennis, street basketball, football, cricket and Big Sister Sessions. The activities are open to girls of all abilities, whether they are trying a sport for the first time or looking to develop existing skills.
The 'All About Her' event will give attendees the chance to learn more about the sessions on offer, meet programme providers and discover how they can get involved throughout the summer.
Eastleigh Active is also partnering once again with Places Leisure Eastleigh to deliver Big Sister Sessions as part of the programme. The initiative builds on the Big Sister project launched by Places Leisure in 2022 in partnership with Women in Sport, which established a network of Big Sister ambassadors across its leisure centres.
By creating welcoming and positive experiences of sport, Eastleigh Active hopes to help more girls stay active, build confidence and develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity.
