Don't forget barbecue recycling - and don't let the bottles pile high!

12 August 2025
Barbecue

With the mercury set to hit the high 20s this weekend, many residents across the Borough will be dusting off the barbecue and inviting friends and family to enjoy grilled culinary delights in the  sunshine.

But what should you do with the food and drink packaging, leftover food and other recyclable items afterwards?

Don't forget that:

  • Clean cardboard, drinks cans, and plastic bottles can be recycled in the your green recycling bin.
  • All other plastic packaging and foil should go into your black bin.
  • Food leftovers can go into your food waste bin.
  • Glass bottles and jars (and batteries) should go in your glass collection box - but please don't overfill it!

Barbecues are always likely to generate more bottles as residents enjoy the sunshine.

Remember, the Waste & Recycling crews cannot empty overfilled glass boxes. If you would like to order another glass box please go to the Council’s website.
