Discover Lakeside Country Park
Winter walks, woodland and wildlife wonders
There’s lots to explore at Lakeside Country Park. It's easy to assume a walk around the lakes simply follows the water’s edge, but there’s much more to discover. A full 2km circular route takes you around the site’s perimeter, past the arena and through a strip of woodland on the western edge, home to several very old trees.
There is abundant bird life on the lakes all year round but the stars of the lakes are the magnificent Great Crested Grebes who regularly breed in two or three of the lakes. The beautiful courtship dance of the Grebes in early spring is worth getting up early for! Greylag geese start to arrive in the spring to breed along with a few Canada Geese.
The lakes are surrounded by Alder trees which attract flocks of seed eating birds. If you are really lucky you might catch a glimpse of a Kingfisher or a Snipe in the wet meadows.
People interested in walking outdoors can join a free Walk & Talk, held twice monthly on Tuesday afternoons. The gentle 2km circuit offers a relaxed pace, with the option to enjoy refreshments at the end.
The next Walk & Talk is on Tuesday 3 February at 1pm. Please reserve your space.
