Council concern at Botley bypass tree felling

Statement from Eastleigh Borough Council

05 March 2021

The Borough Council has issued the following statement following the felling, in error, of mature trees as part of the County Council's Botley Bypass project:

"We understand that the mature ash trees in Woodhouse Lane, that were covered by protection orders, were cut down in error by Hampshire County Council's contractors, working on their Botley Bypass project.

"The Borough Council’s Planning Enforcement team are currently investigating this matter in detail.

"Residents are understandably very upset – and members of Eastleigh Borough Council’s Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee, have expressed their grave concern to the County Council over this in no uncertain terms.

"We are in urgent discussions with Hampshire County Council and are expecting a full report to assist our investigations and establish what can be done to rectify the situation."
