Council gives go ahead for development of former civic offices site
A new Hendy car showroom development on the former civic offices site has been given the go ahead at Eastleigh Local Area Committee's meeting on 18 January 2022.
Eastleigh Local Area Committee unanimously approved a resolution to grant full planning permission for a new Hendy car showroom as part of the second phase of the re-development of the old civic offices site on Leigh Road.
It includes the construction of a car dealership comprising two showroom buildings and a car display courtyard on the site frontage. It also includes proposals for a workshop, rear service yard, two deck car parking, landscaping and access. Access to the site is from Villeneuve St Georges Way on the west side of the site, leading to Leigh Road to the north and Kornwestheim Way to the south
A Council spokesperson said, “This is an exciting development that brings more business investment into our Borough. The new Hendy car showroom will provide additional jobs and opportunities for local people. It also brings a vacant brownfield site into viable use, provides economic benefits to the local area and supports an existing business.”
They added, “The Council retains ownership of the site and the business premises will add to the Council’s property portfolio that provides a significant rental income to the Council.”
Hendy Director John Hendy said, “We are excited to, once again, be working with the Council to deliver this scheme which will further reinforce our connection with the Borough and create an interesting building and a significant number of jobs.”
