The Council is appealing for witnesses who may have seen or have information about an act of vandalism at the popular play area at Cornwall Road, Eastleigh.

A piece of play equipment was set alight and the incident was reported to the Fire Service who attended at around 7pm on Thursday 27 January. The damage could have been much more extensive had it not been quickly reported.

The Council has now fenced off this piece equipment as it is unsafe to use and so repairs can take place or a replacement installed. The rest of the play area remains open.

A Council spokesperson said, “This is a mindless act of vandalism that has ruined part of this popular play area. It will also mean a significant repair bill for local taxpayers. I would strongly urge anyone who witnessed or has any information about this incident to please contact the Police on 101 or contact the Council on 023 8068 8000.”
